Naomi L'Estrange is named Trustee of the Year

" The judges felt Naomi's submission really stood out in this very competitive category. She demonstrated that she has achieved a lot during her pensions career and more recently"
Stephanie Baxter

Naomi a Director with 2020 Trustees said: “I was honoured just to be shortlisted for an award and so to win was something else.  It was both exciting and uplifting to be sitting in a room full of pension professionals where most of them were women.”

The awards were established to highlight the work of the countless inspiring and pioneering women who work in the pensions sector, where they are currently under-represented and it is hoped that the Women in Pensions Awards will shine a light on the work they do.

Entrants were considered by a panel of judges including representatives from leading insurance, investment and pensions firms.  Naomi’s win was looked at in the context of inspiring other women to consider a role as a pension scheme trustee and she is proud to be a role model to others.  She is regularly invited to write articles for the sector and speak at numerous events representing 2020 Trustees.

Professional Pensions deputy editor and chair of the judging panel Stephanie Baxter said: “The judges felt Naomi’s submission really stood out in this very competitive category. She demonstrated that she has achieved a lot during her pensions career and more recently as a professional trustee.”

Naomi has been a Director at 2020 Trustees for over four years.  She has a wealth of experience on issues affecting pension schemes from day to day negotiations to complex litigation. She was formerly Director of Strategy and Policy at the Pension Protection Fund as well as its inaugural Director of Legal. She was also one of the original architects of the Pensions Act 2004 while on secondment from Herbert Smith Freehills

“My own route to becoming a Trustee Director came via studying law and then becoming a pensions lawyer,” she said.  “The pension sector is wide and varied and I think, really interesting.  It’s just a shame it’s not pushed as a career option for girls and young women.”
